Ubiquiti UDB-IOT UniFi Device Bridge IoT
The Ubiquiti UniFi Device Bridge IoT (UDB-IoT) is an ultra-compact wireless bridge that connects Ethernet-based IoT and industrial devices to an existing UniFi Wi-Fi network. It uses integrated UniFi WiFi Auto-Link for streamlined deployment, with a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity and flexible USB-C or 9–30V DC power options.
Its compact form factor and included wall and DIN-rail mounting hardware make it ideal for controllers, sensors, printers, access systems and other low-bandwidth Ethernet devices in locations where running network cabling is difficult or uneconomical.
Connect Ethernet IoT devices to UniFi Wi-Fi
The UDB-IoT allows a device with a wired Ethernet connection to communicate across a UniFi wireless network. Simply connect the IoT device to the bridge’s RJ45 port and the UDB-IoT provides the wireless uplink through a compatible UniFi access point.
Suitable applications include:
- Industrial controllers and monitoring equipment
- Building-management systems
- Access-control and security devices
- Ethernet printers and point-of-sale equipment
- Environmental sensors and data loggers
- Digital signage and automation equipment
- Other low-bandwidth Ethernet-only devices
The Ethernet port supports 10/100Mbps connectivity, making the bridge particularly well suited to IoT equipment that does not require Gigabit network performance.
Integrated UniFi WiFi Auto-Link
The Device Bridge IoT forms part of Ubiquiti’s Auto-Link ecosystem, which enables compatible UniFi devices to establish a managed wireless uplink through UniFi access points. This simplifies deployment by reducing the manual wireless configuration normally required when connecting an Ethernet-only device to Wi-Fi.
Once connected to the Ethernet device and powered, the UDB-IoT can use Auto-Link to associate with the compatible UniFi Wi-Fi infrastructure. Signal-strength LEDs assist with placement, while the bridge can be monitored and managed as part of the UniFi environment.
Auto-Link is also used across other products in Ubiquiti’s Device Bridge family, providing a consistent approach to connecting wired devices where an Ethernet cable cannot easily be installed.
Compact 2.4GHz wireless bridge
The UDB-IoT uses Wi-Fi 4 connectivity in the 2.4GHz band. This frequency is well suited to many IoT and industrial applications because it generally provides better penetration through walls and obstacles than higher wireless frequencies.
Its 2×2 MIMO radio supports a maximum wireless data rate of up to 300Mbps using a 40MHz channel. WPA2 AES encryption is always enabled to protect the wireless connection.
Internal and external antenna options
A built-in 4dBi antenna provides a compact installation option without requiring an external aerial. Where additional placement flexibility or signal optimisation is required, the bridge also includes an RP-SMA connector and a detachable 3dBi omnidirectional antenna.
Four blue signal-strength LEDs provide an immediate indication of connection quality, helping installers select a suitable mounting location.
USB-C or wide-range DC power
The UDB-IoT can be powered from either:
- USB Type-C using 5V DC at 1A
- A four-pin DC socket accepting 9–30V DC
The wide DC input range makes the bridge suitable for integration with industrial control cabinets, automation systems and other low-voltage installations. Maximum power consumption is only 2.3W.
Power supplies are not specified as included and should be selected to suit the installation.
Wall and DIN-rail mounting
The compact enclosure can be installed on a wall or mounted on a DIN rail using the included mounting hardware. DIN-rail support makes the UDB-IoT particularly useful inside electrical cabinets, communications enclosures and industrial control installations.
Without its external antenna, the bridge measures only 63 × 44.5 × 25.5mm and weighs 45g.
Centralised UniFi management
The UDB-IoT is designed to operate within a UniFi-managed wireless network. This provides installers and administrators with a consistent interface for deployment, monitoring and network management alongside compatible UniFi access points and other Auto-Link devices.
Ubiquiti currently notes that full VLAN functionality requires compatible access points running supported firmware. Firmware requirements should therefore be checked when planning VLAN-separated IoT deployments.
