Lighthouse Service Portal Enabled
The CM8008-C-LSP is factory-enabled for Opengear Lighthouse Service Portal (LSP), simplifying the deployment and Lighthouse enrolment of Opengear appliances across distributed networks.
Lighthouse Service Portal allows an LSP-enabled Opengear appliance to securely call home and automatically obtain the appropriate Lighthouse enrolment information associated with that device.
When the CM8008-C-LSP is powered on and provided with suitable Internet connectivity, the LSP process can securely identify the appliance using TPM-based device identity and automatically enrol it into the appropriate Lighthouse environment.
This zero-touch approach can significantly simplify deployment where Opengear appliances are being installed across multiple branch, retail, edge, telecommunications, or remote locations.
Important: Lighthouse Service Portal enabled hardware does not mean that a Lighthouse software licence or node subscription is included with the appliance. A separate applicable Lighthouse licence/subscription is required to use Lighthouse management services.
Global 5G Cellular Connectivity for Network Resilience
The CM8008-C-LSP incorporates a global 5G cellular modem, providing an independent path into the console manager if normal wired network access becomes unavailable.
The cellular interface supports 5G NR Sub-6 and LTE CAT20, providing modern high-performance cellular connectivity for Smart Out-of-Band management.
This becomes particularly valuable when the infrastructure responsible for providing normal remote access is itself experiencing a problem.
For example, if a remote site's firewall or router fails and takes the WAN connection down with it, administrators may still be able to:
- Connect to the CM8008-C-LSP through its cellular connection.
- Access the serial console of the affected firewall or router.
- Diagnose the fault.
- Correct configuration or software issues.
- Restore the production network remotely.
This can turn a network failure that would otherwise require an onsite technician into an incident that can potentially be diagnosed and resolved remotely.
Dual SIM Support for Additional Cellular Resilience
The CM8008-C-LSP provides two 4FF nano-SIM slots, providing flexibility when deploying cellular services across distributed locations.
Dual SIM capability can also be used to improve Out-of-Band resilience where appropriate cellular services are available, helping organisations maintain an alternative route to remote infrastructure when primary network connectivity has failed.
A suitable cellular SIM and data service are required separately.
Eight Serial Ports for Critical Network Infrastructure
The CM8008-C-LSP provides eight RJ45 RS-232 Cisco Straight X2 pinout serial console ports, allowing a single compact appliance to provide console-level management for multiple critical infrastructure devices.
Typical connected equipment includes:
- Routers
- Ethernet switches
- Firewalls
- Servers
- UPS systems
- PDUs
- Storage appliances
- Telecommunications equipment
- Other serial-managed infrastructure
Serial console access operates independently of the normal IP management interface of the connected equipment.
If a router has been misconfigured, a firewall becomes inaccessible, a switch loses network connectivity, or another device cannot be reached over the production network, administrators can still use its physical console connection through the CM8008-C-LSP.
Console management capabilities include secure remote sessions, multiple concurrent sessions, browser-based terminal access, console event and keystroke logging, text pattern matching and alerting, and IP aliases for individual serial console connections.
Flexible Gigabit Ethernet and SFP Connectivity
In addition to its cellular interface, the Opengear CM8008-C-LSP provides two 1GbE/SFP combo network interfaces, allowing either copper Gigabit Ethernet or compatible SFP fibre connectivity to be used according to the deployment requirements.
This provides flexibility for:
- Copper management networks
- Fibre management networks
- Dedicated Out-of-Band networks
- Network redundancy
- Ethernet aggregation
- Automatic network failover
- Management network separation
- Existing fibre infrastructure
Combined with integrated 5G cellular connectivity, these interfaces provide multiple potential paths for maintaining access to critical infrastructure.
Remote Power Management and PDU Integration
Serial console access can resolve many infrastructure problems remotely, but some failures require an unresponsive device to be physically restarted.
The CM8000 Series includes integrated PDU support for remote power management, allowing compatible power infrastructure to be controlled alongside serial-connected devices.
Administrators can therefore combine remote console access with remote power control. If a router, firewall, switch, server, or other device becomes completely unresponsive, it may be possible to remotely power-cycle the equipment without dispatching a technician.
This can help organisations:
- Reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
- Minimise network downtime
- Reduce onsite technician callouts
- Improve support for unattended locations
- Recover equipment outside normal business hours
- Improve operational efficiency across distributed networks
Powerful Quad-Core Automation Platform
The CM8008-C-LSP is considerably more capable than a traditional serial console server.
It is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor with 4GB LPDDR4 memory and 32GB eMMC storage, providing a modern platform for automation and intelligent remote management.
Automation and scalability capabilities include:
- Docker container support
- Python
- Ruby
- Ansible
- Zero Touch Provisioning
- API-based management
- SNMP standard MIB support
- Automated monitoring and remediation
These capabilities allow organisations to automate common deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and recovery processes directly at remote and edge locations.
Enterprise Security with TPM 2.0
Because Smart Out-of-Band management provides privileged access to critical infrastructure, security is fundamental to the CM8008-C-LSP platform.
The appliance incorporates Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 hardware security together with enterprise authentication, encryption, VPN, and access-control capabilities.
Security and authentication features include:
- TPM 2.0 hardware security
- TACACS+
- RADIUS
- Active Directory
- OpenLDAP
- Local authentication fallback
- IPSec
- OpenVPN
- Secure HTTPS administration
- SSH remote access
- Secure and audited console sessions
TPM 2.0 also provides the secure device identity used during the Lighthouse Service Portal enrolment process.
Centralised Management with Opengear Lighthouse
Once enrolled, the CM8008-C-LSP can be centrally managed through Opengear Lighthouse, providing a common management platform across geographically distributed Opengear infrastructure.
Lighthouse is particularly useful for organisations operating large numbers of:
- Branch offices
- Retail stores
- Telecommunications sites
- Network closets
- Edge environments
- Remote infrastructure locations
Instead of managing individual console managers separately, Lighthouse provides centralised visibility and access across the Opengear environment.
The LSP-enabled CM8008-C-LSP simplifies the initial Lighthouse enrolment process, making it particularly attractive for large-scale distributed deployments where reducing onsite configuration requirements is important.
A separate Lighthouse licence/node subscription is required.
Compact Design with 8-Port Serial Density
The CM8000 Series is designed for environments where rack space is limited but resilient Out-of-Band access remains essential.
The CM8008-C-LSP combines eight serial console ports, global 5G cellular connectivity and Lighthouse Service Portal enablement in a compact 1RU half-rack-width chassis.
This makes it particularly suitable for locations that require greater serial density than the four-port CM8004 platform without requiring a conventional full-width enterprise console manager.
Its passive cooling design also makes it well suited to branch offices, retail locations, telecommunications sites, network closets, and other space-constrained environments.
Opengear Support Licence Requirement
Note. All Opengear deployments require a support license, meaning a support option must be included with every new hardware purchase.
Foundation Support delivers day-to-day assurance with regional coverage and advanced hardware replacement.
Premium Support adds 24×7 global coverage, priority escalation, and expert services for complex environments.
Existing Customers: When Foundation or Premium is purchased for any new device, all existing devices under original warranty automatically upgrade at no additional cost for the remainder of the existing term.
