Auto-negotiation automatically selects the highest compatible connection speed, while Auto-MDI/MDIX removes the need to choose between straight-through and crossover Ethernet cables. Its non-blocking switching architecture helps maintain wire-speed performance across all ports.

The GS308E supports both port-based VLANs and IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging, providing flexible segmentation for compatible routers, access points and other managed switches.

Quality of Service functionality allows important network traffic to receive priority over less time-sensitive data. Port-based and IEEE 802.1p prioritisation can help improve the performance of voice, video, conferencing and other latency-sensitive applications when the network is busy.

Per-port rate limiting can also be used to control the amount of bandwidth available to selected connections.

Link Aggregation for Increased Bandwidth and Resilience

The NETGEAR GS308E supports two static Link Aggregation Groups, with up to four ports in each group. Compatible Ethernet connections can be combined to provide greater aggregate bandwidth between the switch and devices such as NAS systems, servers or another managed switch.

Link aggregation can also provide connection redundancy when correctly configured on both connected devices.

IGMP Snooping for Efficient Multicast Traffic

IGMP snooping helps manage multicast traffic by forwarding it only to ports that have requested it. This can reduce unnecessary traffic across the network and improve efficiency for multicast applications such as IPTV, IP video and other streaming services.

The switch supports up to 128 multicast groups.

Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting Tools

Port mirroring allows network traffic from selected ports to be copied to a monitoring port for analysis or troubleshooting. The integrated cable test function can assist with locating common Ethernet cabling faults, while loop detection and broadcast storm control help protect the network from disruptions caused by accidental cabling loops or excessive broadcast traffic.
