NETGEAR GSM4248PX-100AJS AV Line 40-Port Gigabit PoE+ Managed Switch with 8x SFP+
NETGEAR GSM4248PX-100AJS M4250 AV Line 40-Port PoE+ Managed Switch
The NETGEAR GSM4248PX-100AJS is a high-density M4250 AV Line managed switch designed for large professional AV-over-IP and commercial networking environments. It provides 40 Gigabit PoE+ ports, eight 10G SFP+ uplinks and a substantial 960W PoE budget, making it ideal for connecting and powering extensive deployments of AV encoders, decoders, IP cameras, wireless access points, VoIP phones and other networked devices.
Forty Gigabit PoE+ ports with a 960W power budget
The GSM4248PX includes 40 × 10/100/1000BASE-T ports supporting IEEE 802.3at PoE+. Each port can deliver up to 30W to a compatible powered device, subject to the switch’s shared 960W PoE budget.
This generous power capacity allows the switch to support a large number of PoE devices simultaneously. It is particularly well suited to professional AV systems, video surveillance networks, large wireless deployments and other installations where high port density and substantial PoE capacity are required.
The 960W total budget is sufficient for all 40 ports to supply an average of 24W simultaneously. Individual ports can still provide up to 30W, provided the combined demand remains within the available power budget.
Eight 10G SFP+ fibre uplinks
Eight 1G/10G SFP+ slots provide high-speed fibre or direct-attach copper connectivity to core switches, servers, storage systems, remote equipment racks and other AV switches.
The large number of SFP+ interfaces allows the GSM4248PX to aggregate multiple AV or business-network connections without consuming any of its 40 copper PoE+ ports. The 10Gbps uplinks are particularly valuable when transporting multiple high-bandwidth video streams or connecting the switch to data-centre and server-room infrastructure.
High-performance 240Gbps switching capacity
The GSM4248PX provides a 240Gbps non-blocking switching fabric across its 48 data ports. This enables the switch to forward traffic at full capacity across its Gigabit copper and 10G SFP+ interfaces, subject to the performance and configuration of connected equipment.
Its high switching capacity makes it suitable for bandwidth-intensive AV distribution, IP video surveillance, wireless networks and converged commercial environments carrying data, voice and video traffic.
Why choose NETGEAR AV Line switches?
NETGEAR AV Line switches are engineered specifically for the requirements of professional AV over IP. Unlike general-purpose network switches, the M4250 range provides an AV-focused management interface, preconfigured AV profiles and enhanced multicast capabilities designed to simplify the deployment of networked audio and video.
Profiles are available for widely used AV technologies and protocols such as Dante, AES67, Q-SYS, NDI, NVX and SDVoE. These profiles help installers apply appropriate VLAN, multicast and Quality of Service settings without configuring each networking feature separately.
NETGEAR has also designed the physical hardware around professional AV installation practices. Network and power connections are located at the rear for clean rack cabling, while front-facing status indicators remain easy to monitor. Selectable fan modes allow cooling and noise levels to be adapted for equipment rooms, control rooms and other professional environments.
Enhanced multicast with NETGEAR IGMP Plus
AV-over-IP systems frequently use multicast to distribute audio or video from a single source to multiple destinations. NETGEAR IGMP Plus provides enhanced multicast functionality across the M4250 platform, helping direct streams only to the switch ports that require them.
This reduces unnecessary network traffic and simplifies multicast configuration across multi-switch AV systems. It also helps maintain consistent performance for latency-sensitive audio and video applications.
Automatic configuration between compatible switches
Auto-trunk and Auto-LAG features can automatically configure connections between compatible NETGEAR M4250 switches. This simplifies the creation of inter-switch links and aggregated connections while reducing deployment time and the potential for configuration errors.
Link aggregation can also be used to combine compatible network connections for additional bandwidth or link resilience, subject to the configuration and capabilities of the connected equipment.
Suitable for commercial networks, data centres and server rooms
Although the GSM4248PX is purpose-built for professional AV over IP, it is also a fully managed Ethernet switch that is equally at home in a commercial network, data centre or server room. Its 40 Gigabit access ports, eight 10G SFP+ interfaces, VLAN support, Quality of Service, link aggregation, access controls and advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 capabilities make it suitable for a wide range of conventional IT applications.
The switch can connect servers, workstations, wireless access points, IP cameras, VoIP phones, network storage and other business-critical equipment. Its high port density, large PoE budget and extensive 10G connectivity are particularly useful for larger campus, hospitality, education, corporate and infrastructure networks.
The AV interface and preconfigured profiles are additional capabilities rather than limitations. Network administrators can use NETGEAR’s conventional managed-switch interface to configure the GSM4248PX for general data networking, dedicated AV services or a converged environment carrying data, voice, surveillance and AV traffic across the same infrastructure.
Flexible professional rack installation
The GSM4248PX uses a 1U rackmount enclosure with rear-facing Ethernet, SFP+ and power connections. Standard rackmount brackets are supplied, along with longer brackets for recessed installation.
The switch can also be reverse-mounted when front-facing ports are preferred. Threaded mounting points support additional installation options outside a conventional rack, subject to the use of appropriate mounting hardware.
Selectable fan modes allow administrators to balance cooling requirements against operating noise. This makes the switch suitable for dedicated server rooms and equipment racks as well as AV environments where acoustic performance is important.
