The NETGEAR GS728TP-300AUS is a versatile 28-port Gigabit PoE+ Smart Managed Switch designed for business networks carrying data, voice, wireless and surveillance traffic. It combines 24 Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ ports with four dedicated Gigabit SFP uplink ports, allowing all 28 network interfaces to operate simultaneously. A 190W PoE budget, flexible Layer 2 management and Layer 3 Lite capabilities make it a strong choice for offices, schools, retail environments, hospitality sites and managed network installations.

28 Gigabit ports with dedicated fibre uplinks

The GS728TP provides 24 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 ports and four dedicated 1000BASE-X SFP ports. Unlike switches that use shared or combo interfaces, its SFP ports do not replace any of the copper connections. Installers can therefore connect up to 24 copper devices while using all four SFP ports for fibre uplinks, network aggregation or connections between buildings.

With 56Gbps non-blocking switching capacity, the switch is engineered to handle simultaneous traffic across all 28 Gigabit ports.

190W PoE+ budget for access points, cameras and phones

All 24 RJ45 ports support IEEE 802.3af PoE and 802.3at PoE+, delivering up to 30W from an individual port, subject to the switch’s total 190W power budget. This allows the GS728TP to power compatible wireless access points, VoIP phones, IP surveillance cameras, access-control devices and other PoE equipment without separate power adapters.

Advanced per-port PoE controls allow administrators to enable or disable power, set limits and schedule PoE availability. This can simplify device management and help reduce unnecessary power consumption.

Smart network management and optional NETGEAR Insight

The GS728TP can be managed through its local browser-based interface and supports optional NETGEAR Insight remote and cloud management. Insight provides centralised visibility and configuration for supported NETGEAR devices across multiple customer sites, making it particularly useful for MSPs, integrators and organisations with distributed networks.

Management capabilities include SNMP v1, v2c and v3, RMON, syslog, port mirroring, cable diagnostics, dual firmware images and configurable management VLANs.

VLAN, QoS and Layer 3 Lite functionality

Comprehensive traffic-management tools help businesses segment and prioritise network services. The GS728TP supports IEEE 802.1Q VLANs, voice VLAN, dynamic VLAN assignment, private VLAN functionality, link aggregation with LACP and advanced Quality of Service based on ports, IEEE 802.1p, DSCP and Layer 2, Layer 3 and Layer 4 information.

Layer 3 Lite features include IPv4 and IPv6 static routing, with support for up to 32 static routes. This can reduce unnecessary traffic through the network router when communication is required between local VLANs.

Business network security and multicast management

Security features include IEEE 802.1X authentication, RADIUS and TACACS+, access control lists, DHCP snooping, protected ports, MAC-based controls, denial-of-service prevention and storm control.

IGMP and MLD snooping, multicast filtering and an IGMP snooping querier help optimise multicast applications such as IPTV, digital signage and video distribution.
