NETGEAR GS316EP-100AUS 16-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Switch,15 x PoE+ ports, 180W Total PoE
The NETGEAR GS316EP-100AUS is a compact 16-port Gigabit Ethernet Easy Smart Managed Essentials switch designed for small businesses, surveillance networks, VoIP deployments and wireless access point installations.
It combines 15 Gigabit PoE+ copper ports, a dedicated Gigabit SFP uplink and a substantial 180W PoE budget, allowing power and network connectivity to be delivered through a single Ethernet cable. An intuitive web-based management interface provides essential controls including VLANs, QoS, link aggregation, IGMP snooping and per-port PoE management, without the complexity of a fully managed enterprise switch.
15 Gigabit PoE+ ports with a 180W power budget
The GS316EP-100AUS provides 15 × 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 ports supporting IEEE 802.3af PoE and IEEE 802.3at PoE+. Each PoE+ port can deliver up to 30W, subject to the switch’s total 180W power budget.
Power and data can be supplied over the same network cable to compatible devices such as:
- IP surveillance cameras
- Wireless access points
- VoIP phones
- Video intercoms
- Access-control devices
- Other PoE and PoE+ network equipment
Per-port PoE controls allow installers and network administrators to enable or disable PoE, configure port priorities and manage power allocation. PoE scheduling can be used to turn connected devices on or off at predetermined times, helping reduce unnecessary power consumption.
Dedicated Gigabit SFP uplink
In addition to its 15 Gigabit PoE+ RJ45 ports, the NETGEAR GS316EP includes one dedicated 1Gbps SFP slot. This can accommodate a compatible copper or fibre SFP transceiver, providing a convenient uplink to another switch, router or network backbone.
Because the SFP interface is dedicated rather than shared with an RJ45 port, it can be used without reducing the number of available PoE+ connections.
Easy Smart network management
The GS316EP sits between an unmanaged switch and a more advanced fully managed switch. It is straightforward to deploy while providing useful configuration and traffic-management features through its browser-based management interface.
Key management capabilities include:
- Port-based and IEEE 802.1Q VLANs
- Quality of Service and traffic prioritisation
- Port-based bandwidth control
- IGMP snooping for multicast traffic
- Link aggregation
- Port mirroring
- Broadcast filtering
- Loop prevention
- Cable testing
- PoE power monitoring and management
- PoE scheduling
- Uninterrupted PoE during selected switch operations
- Configuration backup and restore
- Firmware upgrade support
VLAN functionality enables different types of traffic—such as staff devices, guest access, voice services and surveillance cameras—to be separated into logical networks. QoS can prioritise time-sensitive voice and video traffic, while IGMP snooping helps manage multicast streams more efficiently.
Uninterrupted PoE for connected devices
Uninterrupted PoE helps maintain power to connected PoE devices during selected switch management operations. This can reduce unnecessary restarts of IP cameras, wireless access points and VoIP phones, improving availability and shortening recovery time during network maintenance.
Fanless design for silent operation
The GS316EP uses a fanless cooling system, allowing it to operate silently. This makes it suitable for offices, retail counters, meeting rooms, classrooms and other locations where fan noise would be distracting.
Its compact metal enclosure can be placed on a desktop or mounted to a wall using the supplied mounting hardware.
Energy-efficient Gigabit switching
Support for IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet allows the switch to reduce energy usage during periods of low network activity. Auto-negotiation selects the appropriate connection speed for each device, while Auto MDI/MDIX removes the need for crossover cables.
With a 32Gbps switching bandwidth, the GS316EP provides non-blocking Gigabit connectivity across its 16 network interfaces.
Ideal applications
The NETGEAR GS316EP-100AUS is well suited to:
- Small-business Ethernet networks
- IP surveillance and CCTV systems
- VoIP phone deployments
- Wi-Fi access point installations
- Retail and hospitality networks
- Professional home offices
- Schools and training facilities
- Small access-control and intercom systems
- Networks requiring a fibre uplink
