Ericsson S700 Ruggedised LTE Gateway with Wi-Fi 6 and 3-Year NetCloud Essentials + Advanced

The Ericsson Enterprise Wireless Solutions TBA3-0700C4E-GM combines the S700 semi-ruggedised LTE gateway with a three-year Ericsson NetCloud IoT Essentials and Advanced subscription. Formerly known as Cradlepoint, Ericsson Enterprise Wireless Solutions delivers a centrally managed 4G connectivity platform designed for distributed IoT, surveillance, digital signage, industrial monitoring and cellular failover applications.

The S700 features an embedded LTE Category 4 modem, dual SIM slots, concurrent dual-band Wi-Fi 6, two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and active GNSS. Its IP30-rated aluminium enclosure, wide operating-temperature range, ignition sensing and resistance to shock and vibration make it well suited to protected light-industrial, portable and embedded installations.

Antenna Connectors

Cellular/LTE: 2 × female SMA connectors, supporting 2×2 MIMO. An external antenna requires 2 × SMA male plugs.

Wi-Fi: 2 × female RP-SMA connectors, supporting 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi 6. An external antenna requires 2 × RP-SMA male plugs.

GNSS/GPS: 1 × female SMA connector. An external GNSS antenna requires 1 × SMA male plug.

Cloud-Managed 4G LTE Gateway for IoT Networks

The S700-C4E incorporates an LTE Category 4 modem supporting theoretical download speeds of up to 150Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50Mbps. Broad global LTE band coverage makes this model suitable for New Zealand, Australia, Europe and other supported international markets.

Dual 4FF Nano-SIM slots allow two mobile-network SIMs to be installed for carrier flexibility and failover planning. The S700 contains a single cellular modem, so it uses one mobile connection at a time rather than operating both SIMs simultaneously.

Two female SMA cellular antenna connectors support 2×2 MIMO LTE operation, helping improve mobile signal performance, throughput and connection stability.

Concurrent Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6 Connectivity

Integrated dual-radio Wi-Fi 6 provides concurrent 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless connectivity. Its 2×2 MIMO 802.11ax radio supports theoretical wireless rates of up to 574Mbps on 2.4GHz and 1.2Gbps on 5GHz.

Two female RP-SMA Wi-Fi connectors accommodate the included dual-band antennas or a compatible external antenna system. WPA2 and WPA3 Personal and Enterprise security options help protect connected users, sensors and other wireless IoT equipment.

Three-Year Ericsson NetCloud IoT Essentials Plan

The included NetCloud IoT Essentials Plan provides the core cloud management and orchestration capabilities required to operate the S700 throughout the three-year subscription term.

Ericsson NetCloud Manager gives administrators centralised visibility and control over geographically dispersed routers, reducing the need for routine site visits. Configurations and policies can be created centrally and applied consistently across individual devices or groups of S700 gateways.

NetCloud IoT Essentials capabilities relevant to the S700 include:

  • Centralised management through Ericsson NetCloud Manager
  • Zero-touch provisioning and remote deployment
  • Group-based configuration and policy management
  • Remote router configuration and troubleshooting
  • Device, network and cellular connection visibility
  • Cellular signal, health and data-usage monitoring
  • Dashboard, reporting and alerting tools
  • Routing, VLAN, firewall and traffic-management functionality
  • Secure VPN and tunnelling capabilities
  • NetCloud OS and modem firmware updates
  • Online training and Ericsson technical support during the subscription term

NetCloud IoT Advanced Features

This package also includes the NetCloud IoT Advanced Plan for the full three-year term. Advanced builds on the Essentials platform with additional capabilities for remote equipment access, complex IoT deployments, troubleshooting, secure tunnelling and third-party integrations.

Advanced capabilities applicable to the S700 can include:

  • Enhanced VPN and tunnelling functionality
  • Remote Connect access to the router and connected equipment
  • In-band and out-of-band management tools
  • More detailed endpoint, client, interface and modem analytics
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic visibility
  • GNSS-based location tracking and location-service features
  • NetCloud Edge Connector support
  • Integration with compatible IoT services such as Microsoft Azure IoT Central
  • NetCloud SDK and API access for custom applications and automation

Exact feature availability can depend on the current NetCloud OS version, account configuration and any required third-party services.

Dual Gigabit Ethernet for LAN and WAN Connectivity

The S700 provides two 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 Ethernet interfaces. Each port is LAN/WAN switchable, allowing the gateway to support a range of network designs.

It can operate as a primary LTE router, cellular failover gateway, parallel network connection or secure gateway for Ethernet-connected IoT devices. Support for up to 64 Layer 2 or Layer 3 VLANs enables administrators to segment connected devices and applications.

The S700 is rated for stateful firewall throughput of up to 480Mbps and point-to-point IPsec VPN throughput of up to 50Mbps under Ericsson’s test conditions.

Active GNSS for Location-Aware Applications

An integrated active GNSS receiver supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou satellite constellations. A dedicated female SMA connector is provided for an external active GNSS antenna.

This makes the S700 suitable for portable equipment, asset tracking and other location-aware IoT applications. The GNSS antenna is separate from the cellular antennas and is not included with this package.

Ericsson S700 External Antenna Connections

The Wi-Fi-equipped S700 provides five external antenna connections:

Active GNSS

This SKU includes two 600MHz–6GHz SMA cellular antennas and two dual-band RP-SMA Wi-Fi antennas. A compatible active GNSS antenna is optional.

A combined external antenna system for the S700 should terminate in 2 × SMA male connectors for LTE, 2 × RP-SMA male connectors for Wi-Fi and, if GNSS is required, 1 × SMA male connector for GNSS.

Semi-Ruggedised Aluminium Construction

The S700 uses an IP30-rated aluminium enclosure designed for protected light-industrial and portable environments. It operates from -20°C to 60°C and incorporates ignition sensing, reverse-polarity protection and transient-voltage protection.

Its compact construction and environmental resilience make it suitable for:

  • Remote monitoring and telemetry
  • Video surveillance systems
  • Digital signage and kiosks
  • Building and industrial automation
  • Energy, utility, oil and gas applications
  • Portable network installations
  • Cellular failover and parallel networking
  • Location-aware IoT equipment

The IP30 enclosure is not weatherproof. Outdoor deployments require installation inside a suitable protected or weather-resistant enclosure.

Flexible USB, GPIO and Serial Expansion

A locking USB 2.0 Type-A interface supports compatible accessories while helping prevent accidental disconnection in industrial installations. Configurable GPIO provides integration with sensors, alarms and other external equipment.

An optional USB-to-RS232 cable can add serial connectivity for compatible legacy and industrial devices. An optional DIN-rail mounting bracket is also available for control cabinets and equipment enclosures.
