So if you're planning to install the TL-R400S on a standard Windows PC, you should not need to buy any additional interface card or cable - the included card and SFF-8088 cable are intended exactly for that use case.

Unlike USB-based expansion units, the direct SATA connection ensures consistent performance and lower latency for demanding storage workloads.

Designed for flexibility, the TL-R400S supports both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA HDDs and SSDs, with hot-swappable drive bays for simplified maintenance and upgrades. When connected to a QNAP NAS, storage can be managed directly through QTS or QuTS hero, allowing administrators to create storage pools, volumes, and snapshots. Windows and Ubuntu users can manage and monitor the enclosure using the QNAP JBOD Manager utility.
