NETGEAR GSM4248P-100AJS M4250 AV Line 40-Port PoE+ Managed Switch

The NETGEAR GSM4248P-100AJS is a high-density M4250 AV Line managed switch designed for large 1Gbps professional AV-over-IP deployments. With 40 Gigabit PoE+ ports, eight Gigabit SFP fibre slots and a 480W PoE budget, it provides the capacity required for substantial audio, video, digital signage, conferencing, education and broadcast networks.

Purpose-built NETGEAR AV Line switching

NETGEAR AV Line products are different from conventional enterprise switches because their hardware, software and user experience have been designed around professional AV workflows. The M4250 series is preconfigured for AV-over-IP and provides an alternative AV-focused interface alongside comprehensive managed-switch capabilities.

Built-in profiles for popular platforms and protocols—including Dante, AES67, Q-SYS, NDI, NVX and SDVoE—help installers apply the appropriate VLAN, multicast and QoS settings without configuring every networking feature individually. Rear-facing connections, front status indicators and selectable fan modes further distinguish the AV Line from general-purpose network switches.

Equally capable in commercial IT networks

Although the NETGEAR M4250 AV Line is purpose-built for professional AV over IP, it is also a fully managed network-switching platform suitable for standard commercial networks, data centres and server rooms. Its Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, fibre uplinks, VLANs, Quality of Service, link aggregation, access controls and advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 features make it suitable for connecting servers, workstations, wireless access points, IP cameras, VoIP phones and other business network devices.

The AV-specific interface and profiles are additional capabilities rather than limitations. IT administrators can use the conventional NETGEAR management interface and configure the switch for general data networking, dedicated AV services or a converged environment carrying business data, voice, video and building-system traffic across the same managed infrastructure.

Forty Gigabit PoE+ ports for large AV installations

The GSM4248P supplies 40 Gigabit PoE+ ports, each capable of delivering up to 30W to a compatible powered device. Its 480W shared PoE budget can power a substantial number of AV endpoints, including encoders, decoders, touch controllers, IP speakers, cameras, wireless access points and control-system components.

The available power budget should be allocated according to the actual consumption of connected devices, as 480W does not permit all 40 ports to draw the full 30W simultaneously.

Eight Gigabit SFP fibre ports

Eight 1000BASE-X SFP slots provide extensive fibre uplink and endpoint connectivity. They can be used for fibre connections between racks, buildings, production areas or remote AV endpoints, subject to the installation of compatible SFP transceivers.

Reliable multicast traffic management

NETGEAR IGMP Plus simplifies multicast configuration across an M4250 switching environment. It helps constrain audio and video streams to the ports that require them, supporting efficient bandwidth use and predictable AV-over-IP operation across larger networks.

Designed for professional AV racks

All primary network connections are located at the rear of the switch, providing clean cable routing in an AV rack while retaining clear status information at the front. Standard rack brackets are complemented by installation options for recessed or reverse mounting. Configurable fan modes allow acoustic performance to be adjusted for equipment rooms, studios and sound-sensitive installations.
