The Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine Special Edition (UDM-SE) is an all-in-one 10G cloud gateway designed for business networks, surveillance deployments and advanced home environments. Combining a high-performance security gateway, UniFi Network controller, eight-port PoE switch and UniFi Protect video recorder in a single 1U appliance, the UDM-SE provides centralised management without separate controller hardware or ongoing cloud-management fees. It supports more than 100 UniFi devices, over 1,000 connected clients and IDS/IPS routing throughput of up to 3.5Gbps.

All-in-one UniFi cloud gateway

The UDM-SE runs UniFi OS and provides a central platform for managing compatible UniFi applications, including UniFi Network, Protect, Access, Talk and Connect. Administrators can configure networks, monitor connected devices, review security events and manage supported UniFi services through a unified interface.

Remote management is available through the UniFi Site Manager, while the local management interface remains available when internet connectivity is unavailable.

Advanced firewall and network security

Designed for secure business networking, the UniFi Dream Machine Special Edition includes a stateful firewall, application-aware traffic identification, intrusion detection and intrusion prevention. It can inspect and route traffic at up to 3.5Gbps with IDS/IPS enabled, making it suitable for high-speed fibre connections.

Integrated eight-port PoE switch

Unlike the standard UDM-Pro, the UDM-SE incorporates PoE switching for directly powering compatible UniFi access points, cameras, phones and other network devices.

Its eight Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports comprise six PoE ports and two higher-powered PoE+ ports. Each standard PoE port can supply up to 15.4W, while each PoE+ port can provide up to 30W. This integrated switching capability can reduce the need for a separate PoE switch in smaller installations.

10G and 2.5GbE connectivity

The UDM-SE provides flexible connectivity for fibre, copper and high-speed internet services. It includes a 2.5GbE RJ45 WAN port, a 10G SFP+ WAN port and a separate 10G SFP+ LAN port.

The 10G LAN interface can be used as a high-speed uplink to a UniFi aggregation or access switch, while the two WAN interfaces support resilient multi-WAN configurations.

Integrated UniFi Protect video recording

The Ubiquiti UDM-SE can operate as a UniFi Protect network video recorder for compatible UniFi cameras and doorbells. It includes an integrated 128GB SSD and a single 3.5-inch drive bay for additional video storage.

A hard drive is not included and should be added when longer recording retention or multiple-camera operation is required. The drive bay supports compatible 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA storage drives, with a surveillance-grade hard drive recommended for continuous recording.

Actual camera capacity and recording retention depend on camera resolution, frame rate, encoding settings and installed storage capacity.

Designed for rackmount business networks

The UDM-SE uses a durable 1U rackmount enclosure with an aluminium front panel and a 1.3-inch touchscreen display. The front display provides device status and installation information, while the integrated drive bay allows storage to be installed or replaced from the front of the unit.

Support for the UniFi SmartPower Redundant Power System provides an optional secondary power connection for deployments requiring improved power resilience.

The UDM-SE is well suited to offices, retail businesses, hospitality sites, schools and other environments requiring centralised network and physical-security management. Its integrated PoE ports make it particularly useful for compact deployments where several access points or cameras need to be powered without installing a separate PoE switch.

For larger networks, the UDM-SE can be connected to dedicated UniFi switches through its 10G SFP+ LAN interface, allowing switching capacity and PoE availability to be expanded as requirements grow.
