NETGEAR XS728T-100AJS 28-Port 10-Gigabit Smart Managed Switch

The NETGEAR XS728T-100AJS is a 28-port 10-Gigabit Smart Managed Switch designed for high-bandwidth business networks, server rooms, virtualisation environments, network storage and aggregation applications. It combines 24 dedicated 10GBASE-T RJ45 ports with four dedicated 10G SFP+ ports, providing 28 simultaneously usable 10-Gigabit interfaces and a non-blocking 560Gbps switching fabric.

It offers a practical way to deploy high-density 10GbE connectivity while retaining familiar browser-based management and advanced Layer 2+ and Layer 3 Lite network controls.

28 dedicated 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports

The XS728T provides 24 dedicated 10GBASE-T copper ports and four dedicated SFP+ fibre interfaces. None of the SFP+ ports are shared with the RJ45 connections, so all 28 ports can operate concurrently.

The copper ports support 1Gbps and 10Gbps connections over standard twisted-pair Ethernet cabling. Cat6a or better cabling is recommended for 10Gbps links over distances of up to 100 metres. The SFP+ slots support compatible 1G and 10G fibre modules and 10G direct-attach copper cables.

560Gbps non-blocking switching performance

With 560Gbps switching capacity, the XS728T provides full-duplex line-rate bandwidth across all 28 ports. This makes it suitable for connecting 10GbE servers, virtualisation hosts, high-performance workstations, NAS and SAN storage, aggregation switches and other bandwidth-intensive infrastructure.

A 3MB packet buffer, 16,000-entry MAC address table and jumbo-frame support help the switch handle large transfers and demanding workloads efficiently.

Cost-effective 10GbE server and storage connectivity

The combination of high-density 10GBASE-T and dedicated SFP+ ports enables flexible copper and fibre network designs. RJ45 ports can connect servers and storage using structured cabling, while the SFP+ interfaces can provide fibre uplinks, direct-attach connections or links to the network core.

Link aggregation with LACP allows multiple connections to be combined for additional bandwidth and link resilience.

Layer 2+ and Layer 3 Lite management

The XS728T supports IPv4 and IPv6 static routing, allowing local traffic to move between configured networks without always passing through an external router. VLAN functionality includes IEEE 802.1Q, protocol-based VLANs, MAC-based VLANs, voice VLAN, private VLAN and dynamic VLAN assignment.

Quality of Service features include eight priority queues, IEEE 802.1p, DSCP and Layer 2, Layer 3 and Layer 4 traffic classification, helping administrators prioritise storage, voice, video and other critical applications.

Security, monitoring and multicast controls

Security capabilities include IEEE 802.1X authentication, RADIUS, TACACS+, access control lists, DHCP snooping, port security, denial-of-service prevention and broadcast storm control.

IGMP and MLD snooping help contain multicast traffic, while LLDP and LLDP-MED assist with device discovery and network topology management. Administrators can also use SNMP, RMON, syslog, port mirroring and a browser-based graphical interface for monitoring and configuration.
