Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch ES-48-500W 48-port managed PoE+ switch

The Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch ES-48-500W is a high-capacity, fully managed Layer 2 and Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switch designed for business networks, wireless deployments and IP surveillance installations. It combines 48 Gigabit RJ45 ports with powerful PoE capabilities, fibre uplinks and advanced switching functionality in a rackmount enclosure.

A key advantage of the ES-48-500W is its support for both 24V passive PoE and standards-based 48V PoE. This makes it particularly useful for mixed-device environments, where legacy Ubiquiti equipment using 24V passive PoE must operate alongside modern IEEE 802.3af or 802.3at PoE devices.

48-port Gigabit PoE+ switch for high-density networks

All 48 RJ45 ports support 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connectivity and PoE output. This makes the Ubiquiti ES-48-500W well suited to installations requiring a large number of powered wireless access points, IP cameras, VoIP phones and other network devices.

The switch delivers 70 Gbps of non-blocking throughput, 140 Gbps of switching capacity and a forwarding rate of up to 104.16 million packets per second.

Support for both 24V and 48V PoE devices

Unlike switches limited to standards-based PoE, the EdgeSwitch ES-48-500W supports two important PoE technologies:

• Configurable 24V passive PoE for compatible Ubiquiti airMAX, airFiber and other legacy or specialist devices.
• Standards-based 48V PoE through IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at PoE+ for access points, cameras, phones and other conventional PoE equipment.

PoE output can be configured individually on each port, allowing 24V and 48V devices to be powered from the same switch. This flexibility can simplify network upgrades by supporting existing 24V Ubiquiti equipment while also accommodating newer 48V PoE and PoE+ devices.

Care should be taken when enabling 24V passive PoE because it does not perform the automatic device detection and power negotiation used by IEEE 802.3af/at PoE.

High-capacity 500W power supply

The integrated 500W power supply provides substantial capacity for powering devices across the switch. Individual ports can deliver up to 34.2W, subject to the selected PoE mode and the switch’s total available power capacity.

This makes the ES-48-500W suitable for demanding PoE deployments involving large numbers of access points, surveillance cameras, VoIP handsets and point-to-point wireless devices.

Gigabit and 10G fibre uplinks

In addition to its 48 Gigabit copper ports, the ES-48-500W provides two dedicated Gigabit SFP ports and two 10 Gigabit SFP+ ports.

These fibre interfaces support high-speed uplinks to network cores, servers, storage systems and other switches while preserving the copper ports for endpoint connections. The 10G SFP+ ports also help prevent the uplink from becoming a bottleneck in high-traffic networks.

Advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching

The Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch operating system provides a comprehensive selection of managed networking features, including VLANs, link aggregation, Spanning Tree, traffic prioritisation, multicast management, port security and network monitoring.

Layer 3 functionality includes static routing, inter-VLAN routing and DHCP server capabilities, enabling the ES-48-500W to route traffic between local network segments where required.

Flexible local and UISP network management

The EdgeSwitch ES-48-500W can be configured through its browser-based management interface or command-line interface. It also supports integration with the Ubiquiti UISP platform for centralised monitoring and management of compatible devices.

The ES-48-500W belongs to the Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch and UISP ecosystem. It is not adopted or managed through the UniFi Network application.
